Indiana Striving to Cut down DeadBeat Parents
Indiana looks to make things difficult for the 165,000 deadbeat parents specifically that owes up to $2000 in child support. The state legislators are in the process of encroaching upon the idea of jackpot winnings from such parents.
The previous legislative assembly brought about a law for checking the deadbeat parents against the jackpot winners. A possible match of a winner’s name in the list would mean that the resulting prize money would be handed over to the Child Services Department instead of the winning parent.
The online feature or program responsible for checking the database is under development by the state. The state of Indiana is striving to complete the program before 2011. The presence of a logical timeline has not been decided yet but it will be dependent upon the linkage between the Department of Child Services and the casinos.
The timeline for checking the list by this has already been a matter of concern for the casinos as a longer amount of time might force gamblers to change their betting grounds. The State, however, has assured that they have looked well upon the time constraint.
There have been indications that only a meager percentage of deadbeat parents might be found out through this program. The Casino Association of Indiana President, Mike Smith has claimed that some 400 parents that owe child support might be found out of almost 300-500,000 checks.
The state of Indiana falls into the same genre with many other states that have enforced similar laws. The state legislators have concluded that those parents shall not be in the casinos that would owe back child support. The lawmakers have stated that each and every win must go to the children and by no means to the pockets of the deadbeat parents.
